Arise: The beautiful new worldArise: The beautiful new world

I’m not sure what to say about this release that hasn’t already been said in the June 2005 – edition of Audio Autopsy. Quite fucken frankly I don’t even know why the fuck am I reviewing this shit? “Shit” as in “stuff”, cos this album itself ain’t shit. I think.

Even if this happens to be a pretty fucken good album, there’s one major “but”: Arise brings nothing new to the table. Not a fucking thing. You know, Finland is pretty good at spawning HIM-clones, but Sweden does more than a good job producing shitloads of In Flames -clones to the market. Am I the only one who finds certain irony in the fact that Arise is actually signed to a Finnish label?

I have to say that this album has a mighty good production. They’ve done especially thorough work with the guitars in order to get nice and massive guitarsound. Not that there’s anything to complain about the bass/drums/vocalsounds either. Too bad that the music itself is… well, something you’ve heard a million times before. There’s a few tracks that managed to get me slightly excited though; “Dreams worthy gods” is one of them. It’s a bit more slow-tempo than rest of the tracks, and with this production it just sounds plain crushing. “King of yesterday, slave of today” is another one that appeals to me for one reason or another. And “Expendable heroes” has actually rather catchy riffs. And I think it happens to be the fastest song on this disc as well.

Anyway, if I wanted to hear well performed melo-death like this, I have plenty of In Flames albums. I am personally more than satisfied with those, thank you very much. If this would’ve been the first band to play this kind of music, I’d possibly given them a 8.5. Since that’s not the case here, the final score is:

7/10
